Jan Vliegen

Jan Vliegen spent most of his career with Umicore from 1984 to 2019. He started as a researcher developing refining, recycling and transformation processes of nonferrous metals. In 2002 he became Senior Vice President heading several business and venture units such Fuel Cells, Battery Recycling, Catalysis, Cobalt and Nickel business with operations in Europe, China and North America. He was vice chairman of the Co and Ni activities of Umicore in China (Ganzhou and Jiangmen).
He participated at several strategic committees at Umicore.
After his retirement from Umicore in 2019 he became chairman of WaterstofNet, an industry network with >165 members in the Benelux investing in the emerging
hydrogen industry.
He started his own consulting company LarCon BV in 2021, focussing on lithium ion battery recycling.
He joined the board of Cirba Solution, Charlotte (NC) in 2022.
Jan holds a PhD in Chemistry and is honorary fellow at the universities of Brussels and Hasselt.
