Organization Overview

Trellis Climate is an impact-first catalytic capital program launched by Prime Coalition to accelerate the deployment of first-of-a-kind (FOAK) climate infrastructure projects. It tackles the critical “commercialization valley of death”, where early-stage climate solutions with high climate impact potential falter due to insufficient or risk-averse capital.

By offering risk-tolerant catalytic capital paired with nonprofit sector transformation programming, Trellis aims to draw in commercial financiers and help these technologies bridge the gap to scale,faster and more effectively.

Objectives / Engagement

• Close the commercialization gap by investing in FOAK climate infrastructure projects that are too risky or capital-intensive for traditional venture or infrastructure investors
• Target projects that meet Trellis’s three strict investment criteria:
  • Impact Potential – Solutions must offer large-scale climate benefits and consider equity outcomes.
  • Bridge to Somewhere – There must be a clear pathway to follow-on capital and scaling post-project.
  • Additionality – The capital should enable outcomes that wouldn’t occur without Trellis’s involvement.
• Address systemic barriers by integrating sector transformation efforts, like community engagement, knowledge-sharing, and field-building programming with investment capital
• Leverage philanthropic capital to mobilize commercial capital, fast-tracking entry to scale and contributing to net-zero goals
