May Tan has been an Advisor to EQT since 2020.
May started her career with PWC in London as a chartered accountant.
She joined Cazenove & Co, a UK independent investment bank in London and then moved to the Hong Kong office where she was responsible for building the Asian business over two decades.
May was appointed as global partner of Cazenove & Co in 1995, the first woman and Asian to achieve that position since the bank’s founding in 1823.
May lead many Asian capital market, corporate advisory and Merger & Acquisition transactions. She was a member of the Hong Kong Exchange Listing Committee (2012-2015) and the Takeover Panel ( 2001-2013).
She joined Standard Chartered Bank (HK) in 2009 when the bank acquired Cazenove’s Asian business. In 2015, May was appointed the CEO of Standard Chartered Bank (HK). one of three note-issuing banks in Hong Kong. May’s leadership in the financial services in Asia is evidenced by her numerous public roles advising government and industry bodies from 2001-2017. Since her retirement from banking, May is an independent non-executive director on three listed international companies and several non-profit organizations. In her current roles, May brings banking, operations, risk and ESG experience to the respective boards.
May graduated from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in Accounting and Economics and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and A Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Public Accountants.
