EQT is excited to welcome new Partners Maarten de Jong and Mark Braganza to its Healthcare team, who will both be based in London. EQT funds have been investing in healthcare companies for thirty years and today support companies in every stage of their growth, from early-stage life sciences start-ups through to global market-leaders. De Jong and Braganza bolster a global team of more than 120 dedicated healthcare investment professionals that is supplemented by an advisor network of over 150 experts with operating experience in the healthcare sector.

A chemist by training, de Jong has nearly three decades of experience advising healthcare companies on M&A and capital markets transactions. Most recently he worked at Moelis & Company in New York, where he led the expansion of its global healthcare platform and was part of the Management Committee. In joining EQT Maarten returns to the UK after 20 years and brings with him a deep global network that reaches from the world’s largest healthcare firms through to entrepreneurs and founders across Europe and the US. De Jong’s extensive experience has focused on key sub-sectors including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices and diagnostics.

Mark Braganza has worked in the healthcare industry for 23 years, first training as a medical doctor at Cambridge University. He then gained experience as a strategy consultant at Boston Consulting Group and a biotech executive at Chiron Corporation, before moving into private equity healthcare investing 13 years ago. Mark Braganza started at TPG, based both in San Francisco and London, and has since worked as a Partner at GHO Capital and Sun European Partners. He has invested in multiple mid-market healthcare opportunities across diagnostics, contract services and medical devices.

Together, Maarten de Jong and Mark Braganza bring a mix of commercial expertise, strong industrial network, and the ability to evaluate the technological and clinical capabilities of healthcare companies. At a time when scientific breakthroughs – accelerated by advancements in technology and data – are driving significant change in healthcare, this combination of skills will further strengthen EQT’s ability to partner with attractive companies in the space.

Commenting on the appointments, Michael Bauer, Co-Head of EQT’s Global Healthcare Sector Team, said: “Healthcare is a priority sector for EQT and we are building a platform that we believe is well positioned to support healthcare companies across their entire lifecycle. In 2021, we acquired Life Sciences Partners, one of Europe’s leading venture capital life sciences investors, to add early-stage expertise and additional deep scientific knowledge to our large-cap buyouts platform. With Maarten and Mark joining the team, not only do we gain proven leaders, we add Partners with the experience and expertise to make EQT an even better healthcare investor.”
