Kabel Baden-Württemberg announces change of CEO
Today, Kabel Baden-Württemberg (“Kabel BW”) announced that Klaus Thiemann has been appointed new CEO of Kabel BW, succeeding Georg Hofer. Klaus Thiemann, today a board member of Kabel BW, is taking up the CEO position of Kabel BW for an interim period.
Chairman, Gunnar Asp, stated: “We appreciate the very significant contributions Georg Hofer made during his years with Kabel BW. He helped the company focus on several important areas of its business; in particular he was key in the development of the technical strategy and has successfully adapted the company in a fast changing market. Georg Hofer has decided to retire from Kabel BW and I wish him the best of luck in the future.
The chairman continued: “We are also delighted that Klaus Thiemann, with significant sales and marketing experience and long experience from the broadband Internet and telephony services industry, has accepted to become new CEO of Kabel BW.”
Klaus Thiemann, 62, was previously in the management board of Arcor AG & Co . KG, CEO of E-Plus Mobilfunk and CEO of the Krups - Moulinex companies in Germany and USA . Klaus Thiemann will be CEO during an interim period and will thereafter go back to be a member of the supervisory board.
Kabel BW was the first large scale operator to introduce digital cable television, broadband internet and telephony services (“triple play”) on one single platform and has since then continued to upgrade its network for triple-play. Today Kabel BW has more than 2.3 million subscribers, making it one of the largest cable operators in Germany and Europe. Customers can get more than 80 analogue and more than 600 digital channels (including HDTV), high speed internet as fast as 20 Mbps, and a variety of innovative IP services like voice over internet. In the financial year ended December 2005, Kabel BW generated revenues of EUR 246m.
