Field Stern
Mr. Stern oversees EQT Real Estate’s U.S. Multifamily platform, bringing extensive experience in multifamily real estate investments, capital markets and portfolio management. He joined EQT Real Estate in July 2022 through the acquisition of Redwood Capital Group, where he had been since 2017. At Redwood, Mr. Stern played a dual role, leading and overseeing the Investments team while managing the company’s capital markets and fundraising initiatives. In addition, he was instrumental in shaping investment strategy, sourcing and negotiating multifamily real estate investments, joint-venture structuring, conducting hold/sell valuation analyses, and driving executive leadership team initiatives. Prior to joining Redwood Capital Group, Mr. Stern spent just over 11 years at Chicago-based Waterton—a vertically integrated real estate owner and operator with a focus on U.S. multifamily apartments. In his tenure at Waterton, Mr. Stern oversaw all multifamily dispositions and successfully transacted over $3 billion (17,000 apartment units) nationwide. Additionally, he assisted in the successful fundraise of multiple funds. Prior to joining Waterton, Mr. Stern worked in acquisitions for Crescent Heights. Mr. Stern holds a Master of Business Administration degree with a dual concentration in Real Estate Finance & Investment and Entrepreneurship from the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Colorado Boulder. Mr. Stern is an active member of the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC), where he currently serves on the Membership Committee and previously served as the 2022 Chair of the NMHC Emerging Leaders Committee, further cementing his commitment to industry leadership. He is also a member of the Urban Land Institute.
