Field Stern

Mr. Stern brings 20 years of experience in the multifamily sector and is responsible for overseeing EQT Real Estate’s U.S. Multifamily platform. Mr. Stern is a member of the U.S. Multifamily Senior Leadership team and Investment Committee. Mr. Stern joined EQT Real Estate’s U.S. Multifamily team through the acquisition of Redwood Capital Group in 2022. Since joining Redwood in 2017, he served a dual role; helping oversee the Investments team as well as the company’s capital markets and fundraising initiatives. Mr. Stern was also involved in establishing overall investment strategy, sourcing and negotiating new real estate investments, joint-venture structuring, hold/sell valuation analysis, and executive leadership team led initiatives. Prior to joining Redwood, Mr. Stern spent just over 11 years at Chicago-based Waterton—a vertically integrated real estate owner and operator with a focus on U.S. multifamily apartments. At Waterton, Mr. Stern oversaw all multifamily dispositions and is credited with having created the disposition process at Waterton. In his tenure at Waterton, Mr. Stern successfully transacted the disposition of over $3 billion in multifamily investments (17,000 apartment units) nationwide and assisted in the successful fundraise of Waterton’s Residential Property Venture XI. Prior to joining Waterton, Mr. Stern worked in acquisitions for Crescent Heights. Mr. Stern graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from the Leeds School of Business. Mr. Stern subsequently earned a Master’s in Business Administration from the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University with a dual concentration in Real Estate Finance & Investment and Entrepreneurship in 2012. Mr. Stern is a member of the National Multifamily Housing Council (“NMHC”) and was the 2022 Chair of the NMHC Emerging Leaders Committee. He currently serves on NMHC’s membership committee and is also a member of Urban Land Institute (“ULI”).
