First LEED Platinum Student Residence

Madrid Vicálvaro, the first in Europe to obtain LEED Platinum certification for their sustainability standards. The LEED Platinum seal, awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, recognizes the highest level of sustainability in all processes, including construction, design, choice of materials and energy efficiency. Obtaining these certifications is part of the objectives of EQT Real Estate to development of student residences and flexible housing projects obtained the highest recognition in sustainability through LEED Platinum certification (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design). It is the first student residence to achieve this distinction in Europe.

The LEED Platinum seal is the highest level of rating awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), which accredits environmental excellence in construction and sustainability of building. The certification evaluates different aspects of the design, construction and operation of the asset. These include energy efficiency, indoor air quality, water conservation, selection of materials and resources, and even resident awareness efforts.

  • Domotic technology that allows control and reduction of energy and water consumption in the rooms, thanks to motion sensors, meters and an access control system, all in an integrated system. Equipped with intelligent heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system that optimizes the indoor climate based on occupancy patterns and usage profiles.
  • Luminaires in common areas with the ability to adjust to the natural light outside to adapt to the minimum level of consumption automatically.
  • Thanks to hybrid panels, part of the hot water consumed is generated by solar energy. These same panels are used to obtain part of the electrical energy consumed.
  • Landscaping takes into account the promotion of native species that require low water consumption and simple and efficient regular maintenance.
  • Parking lots with bicycle spaces and electric recharging points, as well as reserved spaces for high occupancy and disabled vehicles.

A program of activities is promoted for students, with a focus on coexistence and sustainability, in order to raise awareness of sustainable living practices.

Madrid Vicálvaro student residence, which opened for the 2023-2024 academic year, is located next to the Rey Juan Carlos University Vicálvaro Campus. It has individual studios and shared apartments. It has numerous common areas: work room, private rooms for events, cinema, recreational area and indoor gym.
