Organization Overview

The TransCap Initiative (also known as TransCap) is a non‑profit think‑and‑do‑tank operating at the crucial intersection of systems change, sustainability, and finance. It runs an open innovation platform dedicated to building the emerging field of systemic investing, a new investment logic designed to transform human and natural systems through strategically orchestrated capital deployment.

TransCap’s mission is to serve as a collaborative innovation space, bringing together wealth owners, investment advisors, funders, communities, NGOs, public-sector actors, and innovation practitioners into a unified global community of practice. Together, they co-create and prototype investment strategies aimed at unlocking large-scale, place-based systems transformation in areas such as cities, food systems, energy, infrastructure, and marine environments

Objectives / Engagement

  • Research & Innovation: Co-develop the conceptual and academic foundations of systemic investing, including defining its hallmarks and enabling methods like systems mapping, identifying leverage points, and systems analysis.
  • Prototyping: Test systemic investing in real-world contexts by designing strategic, multi-layered investment portfolios embedded within broader system interventions such as coordinated actions across a city’s mobility system or a region’s agricultural value chain.
  • Field‑Building: Build infrastructure and tools, like a Practice Guide for implementation, shared narratives, community platforms, and educational materials, to support broader adoption and scaling of systemic investing.
  • Capital Orchestration: Co-design models like “capital orchestrators” that align diverse forms of capital, grants, debt, equity, into coordinated portfolios to accelerate real-world systems transformation. A current example is a regenerative agriculture prototype in the U.S. Midwest, bringing together investors, funders, farmers, and technical partners.
