EQT Impact Challenge Southeast Asia
EQT Impact Challenge, a pitch competition spotlighting science-backed startups from across Southeast Asia.

About
The EQT Impact Challenge Southeast Asia took place in Singapore at the end of 2023. Organised in partnership with The Edge Singapore and e27, the event attracted over 170 applicants across climate, biotech, and food innovation. Following three rounds of selection, three finalists pitched live to a jury of investors and ecosystem leaders, competing for catalytic funding, mentorship, and access to EQT’s global network.
Qarbotech, based in Malaysia, won the challenge with its patented product QarboGrow, a light-responsive coating that enhances photosynthesis to boost crop yields and plant resilience. Originally developed by Prof. Suraya Abdul Rashid at Universiti Putra Malaysia, QarboGrow enables plants to grow faster, process more carbon dioxide, and better withstand climate stress. Already in use by Malaysian farmers and home gardeners, the product has shown yield increases of up to 60% in paddy fields. Backed by strong IP, scientific credibility, and regional traction, Qarbotech impressed the jury with its potential to scale both food security and climate impact.
