Claus Hemmingsen has been an advisor to EQT since 2020.
Claus joined the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group (Maersk) in 1981 as a shipping trainee which led to a 38 years long career in Maersk. During his early years Claus mainly worked in HR and container shipping operations. Claus was then stationed in Hong Kong for Maersk Line (1992-1997) and in Singapore (1997-2000) in leading operational, commercial and regional management roles. Claus returned to Hong Kong in 2000 where he as Managing Director had the overall responsibility for Maersk's activities in the Hong Kong SAR and South China.
Claus returned to HQ in Copenhagen in 2003 as SVP responsible for Global Service Delivery and Global Shared Service Centres. Simultaneously Claus held responsibility for APM Terminals. In 2005 Claus took responsibility for Maersk Drilling and Maersk Supply Service in 2005, for Svitzer in 2008 and for Maersk Tankers in 2012. As of January 2014, Claus’ role was focused on being the CEO for Maersk Drilling in addition to that his position on the Maersk Group Executive Board, held from 2007. In October 2016 Claus was appointed Vice CEO, A.P. Moller - Maersk and CEO, Maersk Energy division. His main responsibility was the separation of the oil and gas related businesses, which entailed a sale of Maersk Oil and Maersk Tankers, demerging A.P. Moller – Maersk and listing Maersk Drilling, as well as a number of smaller transactions.
After finalising this task, Claus left Maersk by mid 2019 to pursue an NED career. Today Claus is Chairperson of DFDS and Maersk Drilling, and serves on the Boards of A.P. Moller Holding and the A.P. Moller Foundation as well as a few smaller entities.
Claus has supplemented his education with management courses at London Business School and Cornell University, completed an Executive MBA (honours) at IMD in 2007 and the INSEAD International Director’s Programme in 2018.
